Notes field truncation (if > 4 KB)
« on: August 05, 2011, 12:00:50 PM »
While using gContactSync 0.3.2 with Thunderbird 3.1.11 I found that notes field gets truncated if it´s larger than 4162 bytes. In Google Contacts the notes are there but when syncing (reseted the address book) this field data gets truncated (at ~4 KB) even though it´s transfered correctly (looking at gContactSync log everything is fine). It also affects TB5 and gContactSync 0.3.3 and is not related to Google Contacts limits (ie. 32 KB per contact/10.000 contacts/1MB batch upload) because data is present there.

Thanks.

This rings a dim bell from the distant past.

I'm not sure if gContactSync uses ms exchange, but, back in the windows mobile sync days, there was a size limit on the notes field and exchange sync evolved out of activesync.

fwiw, I have run into other google sync notes field "gotchas" that could bite.  One primary example for me is that I frequently used hyperlinks in notes and, to my dismay, found that google's m sexchange sync is set to not only remove hyperlinks, it removes the entire text of the hyperlink... for example

Joe's phone is TEL:512-555-1212

ends up as

Joe's phone is

Hope that this information is of value.
