Where to put twitter username?

I've noticed that the twitter import puts the twitter usernames in nickname. Is there any particular background on that choice?

I'm looking to figure out a de facto place to suggest to other services that sync with Google Contacts like Gist (since Google doesn't explicitly support them). I have asked the question of Gist as well, no answer yet though (http://support.gist.com/entries/20720341-is-there-a-field-i-can-use-in-outlook-and-or-google-gmail-contacts-for-twitter-handle-and-linked-url).
