Help / Administrator of gContactSync.
« Last post by Starantolone on April 19, 2017, 02:08:44 AM »
It is possible that a user (administrator) has control, to prevent those who want to can delete contacts?
Or enter a code or password that authorizes delete contacts?
I configured gContactSync setting to 0 or 1: maximum contacts can be deleted without asking permission.
Done Test, I can delete all the contacts you want, just ask Ok confirmation.
You tell me solutions?

Thank you.

Help / Re: Adding contact to group
« Last post by Starantolone on April 19, 2017, 01:57:04 AM »
I'm testing gContactSync, using a Gmail account.
It works very well if you use the general address book Gmail is Gmail VS VS Thunderbird Thunderbird Gmail.
I found myself the problem in using the Groups.
I created Groups Gmail directly synchronized to Thunderb., When I saw them, I did test to enter contacts in Address Book Thundb.
Sometimes they go sometimes No.
The problem is that I can create the structure of groups of Gmail, but I wanted to use gContactSync to handle well even in Contact Groups.
If I have to use Gmail even put your Contacts, I ought Working directly Gmail, not Thunderbird. Right?
I wanted to use gContactSync to use contacts Thunderb. more users.

Do you have suggestions for migliorere it?
Thanks.

Bugs and Enhancements / gContactSync & Mailing List management bug
« Last post by topoldo on April 18, 2017, 08:21:05 AM »
Dear Josh,
what I submit here happens since I have been using gContactSync & Thunderbird.
I was not able to understand the mechanism, but now I think I was successfull.

I created a new addressbook in TB 52.0 (but also with previous versions) and I called it "Vanilla".
In this new addressbook I insert some contacts.
For sake of simplicity I put only the Name, Surname and email address of the following 10 "fake" contacts, which were inserted exactly in the reported sequence:

#--NAME---------SURNAME-----------EMAIL
1--John---------DOE---------------john.doe@example.com
2--Frank--------BLAKE-------------frank.blake@vanilla.com
3--Joan---------PEACE-------------joan.peace@rainbow.org
4--Sylvia-------WHITE-------------sylvia.white@red.edu
5--Jim----------MISSOURI----------jim.missouri@river.com
6--Janet------- GREEN-------------janet.green@blue.net
7--Ann----------HARBOUR-----------ann.harbour@geographical.edu
8--Violet-------BROWN-------------violet.brown@peanuts.org
9--George-------WASHINGTON--------george.washington@president.com
10--Paul--------LONDON------------paul.london@capital.net
As soon as they are entered, they were sorted out by surname (or name - I decided for the surname) automatically, as reported in N. "1" of the attached screenshot.

Then, inside this addressbook, I create 3 Mailing Lists exactly in this order and with these names:
#--Name
1--1_List
2--2_List
3--3_List

In N. "2" of the of the attached screenshot it is reported the result of this operation.

At this point I insert in list "1_list" these persons:
John---DOE-------john.doe@example.com
Frank--BLAKE-----frank.blake@vanilla.com
Joan---PEACE-----joan.peace@rainbow.org

In "2_list" I inserted these persons:
Joan---PEACE------joan.peace@rainbow.org
Sylvia-WHITE------sylvia.white@red.edu
Jim----MISSOURI---jim.missouri@river.com

and lastly in "3_list" I inserted these persons:
Violet---BROWN------------violet.brown@peanuts.org
George---WASHINGTON-------george.washington@president.com
Paul-----LONDON-----------paul.london@capital.net

At this point I decide to delete the list called "2_list", ie the list I created as the 2nd one.

Actual results
In "3" of the attached screenshoot I report what happened.
As one can see, the person who was inserted as 2nd in the addressbook, ie "Frank BLAKE" loses his surname which was substituted by the name of the list which was removed and the email of Frank BLAKE has gone.

Expected results
In conclusion, the deletion of a list created as n-th of the lists associated to an address book causes:
a) the name of the removed list to substitute the surname/last name of the n-th person inserted in that address book. For example if you remove list created as 3rd list, then its name subtitutes the surname of the person which was inserted as 3rd in the same addressbook.
b) the email of the person who loses his/her surname (substituted by the name of the list removed) was also lost.

Help / gContactSync Notification - Please login before trying to sync contacts.
« Last post by ghost43 on April 15, 2017, 12:09:22 PM »
I'm on version 2.0.12 and I get no sync at all and when I try to manually sync I get the following:
gContactSync Notification - Please login before trying to sync contacts.

I close this dialogue and nothing else happens.

I looked at, gContactSync - Edit Accounts, and under Address Book is the gmail address xxxx.gmail.com    but under Google Account on the associated line is   “none”. Is there a way to add the gmail account name? I tried clicking New Address Book, but there doesn't seem to be a way to enter my Google credentials.

Reading many posts I tried these things:

updating to “gcontactsync-3.0.0a5-sm+tb”  – no change
I did a reset and still the same notification.
I checked the saved passwords for gContactSync and there weren't any.

Bugs and Enhancements / Re: [patch] Contact Photos: TypeError: card is null
« Last post by Grav on April 14, 2017, 11:10:47 AM »
This patch actually completely removes contact photos for me altogether.

The extension is still present and active, but the area where the photo used to be displayed is no longer present at all.

Worth mentioning is that I recently replaced SoGo Connector with CardBook to managing CardDAV contacts, and for whatever reason it doesn't use the native TB address books.

Bugs and Enhancements / Re: gContactSync & TB 52.0 problem
« Last post by topoldo on April 14, 2017, 10:02:38 AM »
I installed v. 2.0.12 with the updated version 52.0.1 of Thunderbird and it works!
Thanks!
BTW I'll let you know if also with 52.x & 2.0.12 I still have the strange problem that removing a mailing list affects a contact which loses his surname and email address being substituted by the mname of the mailing list.
Cheers

Help / Re: Only 72 of 558 Google contacts synced
« Last post by Josh Geenen on April 14, 2017, 08:25:15 AM »
Are you only synchronizing a single group (not All Contacts), or using version 3.0 and only synchronizing contacts with e-mail addresses?

Help / Re: Adding contact to group

Mailing lists in Thunderbird are very buggy.  I recommended adding contacts to groups using the interface in Gmail/Google Contacts.

Help / Re: Sync makes TB hang for a while
« Last post by Josh Geenen on April 14, 2017, 08:20:50 AM »
This is typically related to the synchronized address book being very slow (the format used by Thunderbird is outdated).  Could you disable sync with that address book, setup a new address book with the same sync settings, and sync?  Is it faster or still slow?
